The Glow Stick Does All The Work

Glow sticks produce light through a chemical reaction called chemiluminescence. When you bend the stick, an internal barrier breaks and the chemicals mix, producing the glow. That means you do not need batteries, wires or an electrical connection inside the balloon.

For the Halloween version, use a clear or lightly colored balloon and a glow stick that fits comfortably inside. Put the glow stick into the deflated balloon first, then inflate the balloon normally.

Once the lights go down, the glow from the stick spreads through the balloon and creates a soft, spooky effect.
