This Easy Pork Carnitas recipe is perfect for dinner when you want something satisfying without too much fuss.

It’s designed as a main dish and serves 6 to 8 people, making it great for families or meal prepping.

The flavor-packed pork is slow-cooked until tender, then crisped up just before serving , a true crowd-pleaser.

Prep time is about 30 minutes, giving you just enough time to build flavor with a quick sauté before letting the Dutch oven take over.

From there, the pork cooks low and slow for around 4 hours. Whether you're using a traditional Dutch oven or an electric one, the technique stays the same: sauté, slow cook, and enjoy.

Rooted in classic Mexican cuisine, these carnitas are the kind of dish you’ll want to make on repeat.

Pork Carnitas - Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 red onion
  • 3-4 lbs boneless pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 bottle of Mexican beer
  • 8 oz chopped green chiles
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 7 oz chipotle chile in adobo sauce
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large oranges
  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 4-5 limes
  • 1 cup cilantro

How To Make Pork Carnitas
  • Add red wine vinegar, sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt into the Dutch oven.
  • Select SEAR/SAUTE, set to 30 minutes, and press START.
  • Stir occasionally. Once sugar and salt dissolve, press CANCEL. Transfer to a bowl with sliced red onion. Cool, then refrigerate. Wipe down pot.
  • Season pork shoulder generously with salt and pepper.
  • Select SEAR/SAUTE again. Add canola oil and sear pork 2 mins per side. Transfer to a plate.
  • Pour off excess fat, leave a thin layer, and return the vessel to the base.
  • Sauté onion and garlic. Add beer, scrape browned bits. Stir in chiles, cinnamon, and chipotle.
  • Return pork. Add broth, orange juice, and orange peels.
  • Close lid. Select SLOW COOK for 4 hours. Press START.
  • Once done, transfer pork to a cutting board. Cover with foil and rest.
  • Skim fat. Shred pork into bite-sized pieces with knife and fork.
  • Arrange on platter and moisten with cooking liquid.
  • Serve with pickled onions, tortillas, lime wedges, and chopped cilantro.
