The town of Calvi is perhaps one of Corsica’s most popular vacation spots. It is located on the northwest coast of the island of Corsica. Calvi is known for its breathtaking beaches and it's crescent-shaped bay.

With its huge bay, five kilometers of beach, a backdrop of mountains that are snow-capped until May, and the walls of a citadel descending down to the sea, Calvi's setting is quite simply irresistible.

Many visitors to Calvi come to enjoy the beaches. The ideal spot to enjoy sea, sun and sand is along the southern coast of the bay, just outside the city center.

If you are a thrill seeker, Algajola Beach offers more excitement such as snorkeling, diving, parasailing and paragliding.

These six activities should be on your list if you're visiting Calvi.

Visit And Explore The Citadel

One of the popular highlights of Calvi is its citadel. Getting to the top of the citadel via its winding and cobbled lanes is definitely a great way to enjoy the best views of the village.

The citadel, which looks over the yacht filled harbor is also a great places to have a meal, including some of the local treats, at one of the chic restaurants located there. You can definitely indulge freely because the walk up and down will help you burn off those extra calories. Prices at some of the restaurants are steep so plan accordingly.

The Citadel is the most important historical monument in Calvi. It is located in the main part of the town.

Visit The Notre Dame de la Serra

The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking to say the least. The walk to the top may be a little challenging for some, and you are advised to bring water, a sun hat, sun block and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. If you follow these instructions you will definitely enjoy the view of the Bay of Calvi.

The original chapel was destroyed in 1740 and the new chapel was built in the early half of the 19th century. While the Notre Dame de la Serra is only open for religious services you can still make the trek and enjoy the amazing view of Calvi from its courtyard.

Music Festivals

If you are fan of music festivals, then you should check out some of the festivals held in Calvi. Two of the notable ones are Calvi On The Rocks, which is held in July and Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques, which is held in September.
